Nichole Nicholas discusses the details and value of the Computational Genomics course with Sherry-Ann Brown, M.D., Ph.D. This year’s course takes place June 19-23 and is hosted by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic Center for Individualized Medicine.

Dr. Matthew Ferber discusses his role with the Center for Individualized Medicine and genetic testing related to colorectal cancer awareness.

In this episode, in observance of heart health month, Martha Grogan, M.D., and Katie Agre, C.G.C., discuss inherited conditions that lead to heart disease. They review the genetic counseling aspect, cardiac amyloidosis and the importance of women’s heart health.

Ifthikar Kullo, M.D., Ph.D., & Katherine (Katie) E. Agre, M.S., CGC, discuss Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH), its impact on patient care and current research.

Wayne (Nick) Nicholson, M.D., Ph.D., defines pharmacogenomics and its impact on patient care. Drug/gene alerts are a key part of integrating pharmacogenomics research into patient care.

Jessica Jackson, Certified Genetic Counselor, discusses the importance of family medical history and her role as a genetic counselor.

Dr. Linnea Baudhuin discusses Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), its current uses, why it matters to patients and its future utility in precision medicine.

Dr. Mansfield discusses his recent publication and research with cancer patients and the use of individualized medicine. The study is trying to understand what types of drugs or dosages based on how well patient livers or kidneys work.

Dr. Babovic takes an elevator ride in the Stabile Building to chat about the Upper Midwest Clinical Genetics Conference and the concurrent Minnesota Neurofibromatosis (NF)Symposium on October 8th, 2016.

The Center for Individualized Medicine and the Department of Clinical Genomics have established the IM Clinic Diagnostic Odyssey Service. Based on three years of experience, we find that Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) reveals a diagnosis in about 30% of the cases.

Caer Rohrer Vitek takes an elevator ride in the Guggenheim Building to chat about the Individualizing Medicine Conference 2016. Genetics and genomics is a fast-moving field.

Purna C. Kashyap, M.B.B.S. discusses Microbiota-accessible carbohydrates, or MACs, and how they relate to our diet. Some research today shows that as more diseases are linked to Western Microbiota, treatment may involve incorporating dietary MACs.

Eric T. Matey, Pharm.D., R.Ph. discusses the basics of Pharmacogenomics.
The drugs available today to treat cancer, heart disease and other conditions are powerful agents that work as intended in most patients.
